| Inscription: | Captain Thomas Chrisp was born in Blyth, Northumberland, England, on 24 January 1837.
He married Mary Elizabeth Dawson in 1859 and became a Master Mariner in 1866. After an extensive sea-faring career he came to the frontier township of Turanga, now Gisborne, in 1874 accompanied by Mary and five children. This stone was erected by his descendants on 3 May 2011 in honour of his valuable contribution to the early development of Gisborne. |
